Brothers Go Head To Head
The first Harbour Take Away Paper Aeroplane Challenge took place at the Goleen Community Hall on Thursday 11th August as part of the Goleen Summer Festival. There were entries of all shapes and sizes as well as the planes themselves! James Kelly held both the Open and U14 record for some time but was overtaken in the Open by a rocket of a throw by Kieran Sheehan and then Shane Barry Murphy took the U14 record. Pat Kennedy surpassed Kieran’s throw in the Open which brought Kieran back to the hall once again. However Tony Ramsey soared his glider out beyond to hold the record which Kieran was unable to match. It fell to Tony’s brother Jerry Ramsey to take the lead with what appeared to be an unbeatable flight that reached the end wall. In the meantime with the entries closed Niall Kiely launched his streamlined plane to take the U14 title with one of the last throws of the day. The last throw of the day fell to Tony Ramsey who once again took to the runway with his modified plane and matched his brother’s attempt also hitting the wall and sharing the top prize of €40 donated by Colin Moynihan the event sponsor with the U14 prize of €10 going to Niall Kiely.

The Vintage Rally

The annual Vintage Rally took place from Goleen to Crookhaven with loads of vehicles taking part once again this year.

Route To Crook
The 7th annual Route to Crook race was a great success with 137 runners in the main event and a large number of walkers and U14’s also taking part. We were lucky with the weather this year as the rain held off and the conditions were perfect for the race. Kevin Wilmot from Bandon AC was the overall winner in a time of 27mins 33secs. The first woman past the post was Rosaleen Mackeown from Leevale AF in a time of 34mins 45secs. Kevin Barry was the first Goleen runner home in a time of 34mins 45secs. Congratulations to all those who took part and a big thank you to all the many volunteers who helped out on the day. Full results can be found on the Mizen Rovers Website
