Welcome to the Goleen and District
Looking for unspoilt, spectacular scenery and a taste of traditional Ireland? Then you can’t go wrong taking time out, to visit this spectacular area. Barleycove Beach is an ideal destination for families looking for a relaxing seaside
experience and is also a well known destination for the surfer and body boarder. The small strool (stream) leading down to the sea caters for those who like to paddle and hunt for small shrimp. The coast line is dotted with other small beaches including the popular Cockleshell Strand and Galley Cove favourites with the locals. Even in winter time this area is popular with birdwatchers and nature lovers. Crookhaven attracts boat lovers with all its facilities as well as those looking for lunch and dinner with a number of fine eateries. The spectacular coastal drive along Dunmanus Bay and past the ruins of the castle is truly astonishing. Whether you are touring in your car or under your own steam on a bicycle this area has much to offer and you will be greeted by some of the friendliest folk in Ireland and a fine selection of accommodation. If looking to explore further afield Schull, Ballydehob, Bantry and Skibbereen are all within easy access. This is a vibrant, growing, lively community, which is attracting more residents and keeping young people at home. |

Local Beaches Ballyrisode, Galley Cove and Cadogans Strand Awarded Green Coastal Beach Standard

These three local beaches have been awarded a prestigious Green Flag by An Taisce and TIDY Northern Ireland, three out of the 10 awarded in County Cork. The much larger and better known Barleycove Beach deservedly retains its Blue Flag status making the Goleen area one of the best beach resorts in the country.
What is a Green Coastal Beach? Green Coast beaches are ideal for those wishing to enjoy a beach experience far removed from the intrusions normally associated with the traditional and more urban seaside beaches. The Green Coast Award beaches meet the top water quality standard set by the European Union. They are also inspected to ensure management plans are being adhered to. Therefore Green Coast Award beaches are perfect places for enjoying our rich coastal heritage and diversity.

West Cork Rapid Response is a voluntary group located in West Cork, Ireland. We work in partnership with the existing HSE Medical Emergency services with a Rapid Response Vehicle servicing all of West Cork.
For instance…in the case of a call-out to an accident/incident, a doctor actually arrives in the vehicle to assist at the roadside. The vehicle contains all the necessary life saving equipment, just like a Mobile A&E Department. An emergency call to 999 /112 is passed on to the required service / Fire / Ambulance / Gardai / Doctor / Priest etc. WCRR is another link in this chain of saving lives.
